Special Selection: "Light of Hope"

Winner of the Manazashi Photo Club 2nd Term Photo Contest "Hikari"
Why do I take photos?
I've had a lot of conflicts over the past year as I've seriously thought about it, but when I saw this one photo, I felt like I understood why I continue taking photos.

Grandma and her second son.

It's been about a year since my grandpa passed away.
I wanted my great-grandchildren to meet me and ease my loneliness, but because of COVID-19 it was difficult to visit them and I had to endure the frustrating days of just sending them photos and videos.

When I met the grandmother for the first time in a long time, she looked really happy and played with my sons the whole time.
Not wanting to forget this lovely, sparkling feeling, I pressed the shutter.

That's right. I want to capture the sights I see with my own eyes, along with the emotions I feel at the time, in photographs and store them away.
You can make your future self happy with photos. What a wonderful item.

My grandmother was also very happy and said that she has looked at all the photos and videos over and over again and that they cheer her up.
Ah, my sons have become the light of their grandmother's life.

When I become a grandmother, I would like to be the exclusive photographer for my grandchildren, and if I live long enough, my great-grandchildren.
And as a token of my gratitude for being the light of my life, I will create a photo book.
With these thoughts in mind, I will take pictures again tomorrow.

The child's presence is a light for the grandmother. This photograph is a light for Chihi, the photographer. I think that feeling is light itself. The light gently illuminates the two of them, and it warms our hearts as we look at it. And we can sense Chihi's strong will. It was a very moving photograph.
