"Balance Easy," a chair that improves posture, wins the "2020 Good Design Award"

"Balance Easy," a chair that improves posture, has been awarded the 2020 Good Design Award (sponsored by the Japan Design Promotion Organization).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, as people continue to work from home and stay at home, the chair has received overwhelming support from users as a home chair that puts less strain on the lower back and improves posture when sitting in it, and it was also recognized for its system of supporting over 200,000 users for 30 years.

[Comments from the Good Design Award judges]
This product was originally developed for children who spend a lot of time studying, but with the increase in remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was once again drawn to the appeal of the Balance Easy, which has a compact size without a backrest, puts less strain on the lower back, and can be stored under a table. In terms of manufacturing, the company has been manufacturing in Japan since 2013 with the consent of its home country of Norway, and I think it is wonderful that they are able to provide high-quality products at reasonable prices without incurring extra logistics costs.
It has been on sale in Japan for 30 long years, and many users have spoken out about the overwhelming ease of use of this chair, which I also highly commend. In an age where so many products are copied, consumed, and disappear, protecting the design and continuing to sell it is no easy task. I strongly believe that this effort, which continues to take on a challenge that is more difficult than simply making something, is an attitude worth emulating.
